Grants & Awards
There are a number of grants and awards available to Barnard College undergraduate students in the field of Asian and Middle Eastern Cultures administered through Barnard College itself as well as the Columbia University Weatherhead East Asian Institute (WEAI), the Columbia University Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures (EALAC), the Columbia University Middle Eastern, South Asian, and African Studies (MESAAS) as well as larger university-wide, national, and international funding opportunities. Barnard College is committed to helping students find funding for research.
Spotlight: Irene Tilenius Bloom Prize
Irene Tilenius Bloom was a beloved Anne Whitney Olin Professor Emerita of Asian and Middle Eastern Cultures at Barnard College, and Chair of the Department until her retirement in 2002. She was deeply loved by her students and her colleagues. As a scholar, Bloom was dedicated to researching and translating the philosophical traditions of China. When she sadly passed in 2010, the Irene Tilenius Bloom Prize was created to gift and support young Barnard students in research. Contact Professor Max D.
